Why the Outlander Sport. A small SUV with a long warranty.

The Outlander Sport is the smallest SUV in Mitsubishi's lineup: a five-seater 171.9 inches long that runs on regular fuel.

Here is what sets it apart from other small SUVs.

  • Ten-year powertrain coverage

The powertrain is covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles, and the rest of the vehicle for 5 years or 60,000 miles.

  • 8.5 inches off the ground

Every version has 8.5 inches of ground clearance, whether it has two-wheel drive or All-Wheel Control.

  • All-Wheel Control on six trims

Optional on the ES, LE and SE, and standard on the RALLIART, Trail Edition and SEL.

  • Room behind the second row

21.7 cu ft of cargo space with the rear seat up and 49.5 cu ft with the 60/40 seat folded.

What changed for 2027.

The 2027 Outlander Sport keeps its design, engines and most of its equipment. The changes are in the drivetrain lineup, and in what that does to price and fuel economy.

Drivetrain

Two-wheel drive is back. The S, ES, LE and SE now come with two-wheel drive. Every 2026 Outlander Sport had All-Wheel Control, which stays available on the ES, LE and SE.

Price

A lower starting price. The S starts at $23,995 with two-wheel drive, $1,000 less than the 2026 S, which came only with AWC.

Efficiency

Better mileage with 2WD. Two-wheel-drive versions are rated 24 city, 30 highway and 27 mpg combined, 1 mpg better on each than the 2.0L with AWC, and carry a 16.6-gallon tank.

Exterior. Easy to park, with 18-inch wheels on most trims.

The Outlander Sport is 171.9 inches long on a 105.1-inch wheelbase, and it turns in a 34.8-foot circle, a useful figure in tight parking garages.

Every trim except the S rides on 18-inch alloy wheels. The RALLIART adds its own lower body trim, side graphics and rear spoiler, while the Trail Edition adds front, rear and side protectors, fender trim and a hood protector.

  • LED headlights, daytime running lights and taillights, standard
  • Rain-sensing wipers and heated power mirrors on every trim
  • Black wheels, mirrors and grille accents on LE, RALLIART and Trail Edition

Performance. Two engines, and All-Wheel Control where you want it.

Every trim but the SEL uses a 2.0-liter MIVEC four-cylinder making 148 hp and 145 lb-ft. The SEL gets a 2.4-liter version with 168 hp and 167 lb-ft. Both run on regular unleaded through a continuously variable transmission.

All-Wheel Control is Mitsubishi's system for managing drive and braking force at all four wheels. EPA estimates range from 27 mpg combined with two-wheel drive to 25 mpg for the SEL.

  • 148 hp 2.0L or 168 hp 2.4L, both with a CVT
  • Drive Mode Selector on every trim
  • Tows up to 1,500 lb with the factory-installed hitch
The front seats, center console and dashboard of the Outlander Sport, seen from the passenger side

Interior. Seats five, with phone integration from the ES up.

The S has a 7.0-inch Display Audio screen with Bluetooth. From the ES up, an 8.0-inch Smartphone-Link Display Audio adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the LE and above add a USB-A and a USB-C port for the back seat.

Upholstery moves from fabric on the S and ES to red-stitched black seats on the LE, RALLIART and Trail Edition, soft-touch combination seats on the SE and leather-appointed seats on the SEL. Automatic climate control is standard on all of them.

  • 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ES and up
  • Heated front seats from the LE up
  • Leather-appointed seats and a power driver seat on SEL

Eight paint colors for the 2027 Outlander Sport.

Availability depends on trim. White Diamond and Red Diamond add $595 and Sunshine Orange Metallic adds $395; the other five carry no charge.
